Building an Instant Bird's Nest Capsule Line for a Health Supplement Brand

A real ONWIN capsule project built around actual ingredient, packaging and equipment requirements.

A Guangxi-based health supplement company wanted to bring bird's nest into a more convenient daily-use format. The brand already had a technical foundation: it could process bird's nest into a high-activity fine powder. The next step was to turn that powder into an easy-to-brew capsule product for modern wellness consumers.

The customer planned several product variants, including coconut milk bird's nest, pure small-molecule bird's nest, oat bird's nest and red-date bird's nest. The product needed to feel premium, be easy to identify by flavor and be simple enough for consumers to prepare at home with a capsule brewing machine.

This was not a standard coffee capsule project. Bird's nest powder is much finer and more soluble than coffee or tea. It behaves differently during filling, sealing and extraction. A normal coffee capsule setup would not meet the customer's requirements without modification.

The Challenge

The first challenge was product presentation. The customer needed different capsule versions to be visually separated, both during production and in retail packaging.

The second challenge was extraction. ONWIN's common aluminum plus filter-paper or aluminum plus non-woven bottom structures are suitable for coffee, tea and some coarse powders. But the customer's ultra-fine bird's nest powder created high resistance and excessive foam during brewing when tested with conventional bottom structures. The drink could become cloudy and less appealing, which would hurt the premium positioning of the product.

The third challenge was filling. Ultra-fine soluble powder can leak, fly into the air or cling to machine parts. Standard auger filling designed around coffee powder can create dust, inconsistent dosing or material loss.

The customer also had two capsule cup types, including one that could not be handled with ordinary stacked-cup feeding. They also needed every finished capsule to carry a real-time production date for traceability.

ONWIN's Solution

ONWIN approached the project as a full packaging and production-line customization, not as a single machine sale.

For product differentiation, ONWIN customized printed sealing films for each bird's nest product line. Independent logos, colors and layout treatments helped the customer build a clear product matrix and improve the retail look of the capsules.

For extraction, ONWIN moved to a single aluminum bottom sealing structure. Compared with the earlier composite bottom options, this structure reduced piercing resistance and allowed smoother water release. The capsule could brew with lower pressure and less foaming, creating a clearer and more refined drink appearance.

For filling, ONWIN upgraded the automatic machine with an open-close auger dosing system. The filling outlet opens only after the capsule is accurately in position and closes immediately after dosing. This reduces powder leakage, airborne dust and dosing deviation, which is especially important for high-value functional powder.

For cup handling, ONWIN added a vibratory bowl feeding system. The cups are automatically sorted and delivered by conveyor, then placed into position by a robotic mechanism. This made automatic feeding possible even for the customer's non-standard cup type.

The production flow was also optimized for coding. Finished capsules are picked and transferred in an orderly way, then marked with an inkjet date code to support product traceability.

The Result

After multiple rounds of testing and adjustment, ONWIN delivered a full solution covering capsule packaging, powder filling, automatic cup feeding, sealing and date coding.

The line is now in mass production. Multiple instant bird's nest capsule products have entered offline health retail channels, giving the customer a new way to position bird's nest as a convenient daily wellness product rather than a time-consuming traditional supplement.

Why This Case Matters

Functional powders can be high-value, delicate and difficult to fill. The machine, capsule structure and sealing method must match the actual powder behavior. For bird's nest powder, solving extraction foam, filling cleanliness and automatic cup feeding mattered as much as the capsule itself.

This case shows the value of developing equipment, packaging and process details together. A successful capsule product is not only a cup and a lid. It is a production system built around the ingredient.
