Helping a Traditional Tea Brand Launch a New-Style Tea Capsule

A real ONWIN capsule project built around actual ingredient, packaging and equipment requirements.

Custom white tea capsule shell developed for a tea brand

A traditional tea company in Hangzhou wanted to reach younger consumers without losing the cultural character of its tea brand. The team saw a clear market gap: many younger buyers enjoy tea, but the traditional brewing process can feel slow, tool-dependent and less suited to daily office or home routines.

The customer wanted to create a tea capsule that could deliver authentic tea flavor in seconds. The product needed to be convenient, but it also needed to feel like a branded tea product, not a generic empty capsule filled with tea.

This meant the project had two layers. First, ONWIN needed to help the customer create a visually distinctive capsule. Second, the capsule structure had to support clear tea extraction, clean filtration and stable brewing performance.

The Challenge

The customer had strong requirements for product identity. The capsule needed a dedicated brand look, including a branded mark on the lid or bottom area, a brand name engraved into the cup base and a Chinese landscape-inspired texture around the cup body.

Those details could not be achieved with an off-the-shelf capsule mold. A generic cup would make the product look like a private-label copy instead of a distinctive tea brand extension.

The tea material also required attention. Tea extraction is not the same as coffee extraction. Tea leaves and tea powders need smoother water flow, effective residue filtration and a clean cup appearance. A poor bottom structure can make the tea cloudy, trap flavor or create inconsistent brewing.

ONWIN's Solution

ONWIN provided a one-to-one mold development process. The design team first built a 3D model of the capsule, including the landscape texture and brand engraving details. The proportions, text placement and surface effect were adjusted before tooling, so the customer could confirm the direction before committing to the mold.

After the visual design was approved, ONWIN moved into custom mold production. The result was a dedicated capsule cup that carried the customer's brand identity directly in the physical product, not only on the outer box.

For brewing performance, ONWIN tested the tea material and selected an aluminum film plus non-woven bottom filter structure. This structure helped filter tea residue, support smoother water flow and preserve the clarity of the tea liquor. The goal was not just to make the capsule work in a machine. It was to help the tea taste and look like a premium tea product.

To support production, ONWIN also matched the capsule structure with suitable filling and sealing equipment, helping the customer move from concept and mold design toward production use.

The Result

The customer approved the custom capsule mold and bottom filter solution, then moved forward with automatic filling equipment and the supporting capsule materials.

The new-style tea capsule line has now been put into production. The product gives the customer a practical way to reach younger consumers while keeping a clear tea-culture identity. It also creates a more differentiated shelf presence than a standard unbranded capsule format.

Why This Case Matters

For tea brands, capsule development is not only about convenience. It is also about trust, culture and sensory quality. A tea capsule that looks generic can weaken a premium brand. A capsule that extracts poorly can damage the product experience.

This case shows how custom mold design, capsule structure and production equipment can work together. When the brand expression and brewing function are developed at the same time, traditional tea can enter a modern capsule format without becoming anonymous.

Planning a tea, herbal or cultural beverage capsule? ONWIN can help test the material, design the capsule structure and develop a custom mold when brand identity matters.
