Private Label Coffee Capsule Production: A Brand Owner’s Guide

Private label lets you launch a fully branded capsule product without owning a factory. You bring the brand (and often the coffee); your manufacturer handles capsules, filling, sealing, printing and packaging. Here’s how it works and what to plan for.

OEM vs ODM — what’s the difference?

  • OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer): you provide the product/recipe; the manufacturer produces it to your spec under your brand.
  • ODM (Original Design Manufacturer): the manufacturer also helps develop the product/formula. If you don’t have a recipe yet, ODM gets you there.

ONWIN’s OEM / ODM service covers both — from concept to shelf.

What’s customizable

  • Capsule format & material — Nespresso (PP, aluminum, compostable, high-barrier), Dolce Gusto, K-Cup.
  • Capsule color — custom colors for your brand.
  • Printed lids & film — your branding on every capsule (custom printed lids).
  • Packaging — gift boxes and retail-ready outer packaging.

The OEM process, step by step

  1. Concept — product direction and target market.
  2. Formula / ingredient — yours, or developed with us (ODM).
  3. Format recommendation — the right capsule for your product.
  4. Sample production — branded samples to approve.
  5. Packaging & printing — lids, film, boxes.
  6. First-order quotation — pricing at your volume.
  7. Small-batch production — launch lean.
  8. Scale-up & long-term supply — grow without re-sourcing.

MOQ and timelines

Minimums depend on format, custom colors and printing (custom capsule colors commonly start in the hundreds of thousands per color, while you can begin with small-batch OEM to enter the market). Timelines depend on formula readiness, sampling rounds and packaging. We confirm both in your quote.

From samples to your own brand

The lowest-risk path: validate with pilot samples, approve branded samples, launch a small batch, then scale. You can stay OEM indefinitely, or bring production in-house later with your own filling machine — same capsules and films, no re-sourcing.

How to choose an OEM partner

Look for: multi-format capability, in-house pilot/testing, custom color and printing, packaging support, and the ability to scale with you (machines + consumables). One partner across the whole journey beats stitching together several.
